Jammu and Kashmir's Chief Minister Omar Abdullah met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the national capital, aiming to advocate for the restoration of statehood in the region. This marked Abdullah's first visit to Delhi following his party's significant victory in the recent assembly elections.

The National Conference, led by Abdullah, secured 42 of 90 assembly seats in a historic electoral win. The newly formed government quickly passed a resolution to request the central government for the restoration of statehood, considered pivotal for constitutional rights and regional identity.

Abdullah's visit also involved discussions with Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari and Amit Shah, focusing on road connectivity projects and security issues, amid recent violent incidents in Ganderbal district.
