Authorities in Sri Lanka have apprehended three nationals suspected of plotting an attack on Israeli tourists at the popular eastern coastal resort of Arugam Bay, confirmed Public Security Minister Vijitha Herath.
The arrest follows a security advisory from the US embassy, which led to increased security around coastal tourism spots. The detainees, identified as Sri Lankan nationals, are under investigation by the Terrorism Investigation Division to uncover intentions behind the alleged plot.
Addressing public concerns, Minister Herath assured that comprehensive measures had been implemented to safeguard all tourists. The police extended security vigilance to include southern and southeastern resort regions, and a tourist hotline has been established for reporting suspicious activities.
