In a unanimous decision, Omar Abdullah was elected leader of the National Conference legislature party on Thursday, announced party president Farooq Abdullah.
The selection took place during a meeting of newly elected MLAs at the party's Nawa-i-Subah headquarters, indicating strong support for Abdullah's leadership.
With 42 seats secured in the recent assembly polls, the NC stands as the single largest party. Allied with Congress and CPI(M), the party holds a comfortable majority, suggesting Abdullah as a prime candidate for chief minister.
