In a closely contested election, Shagun Parihar secured a historic win in the Kishtwar Assembly seat on Tuesday, defeating veteran National Conference leader Sajad Ahmed Kitchloo by 521 votes.
Parihar's victory is notable as she stands among the three women elected in all of Jammu and Kashmir. Overwhelmed by the support, Parihar has committed to focusing on the safety of the region, a historically critical issue.
The 29-year-old BJP representative, who is pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy in Electronics, aims to address youth employment challenges. Her campaign received backing from top leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
