The police have filed a case against BJP MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal following his controversial statement regarding an alleged plot to destabilize the Congress government in Karnataka.

The case was registered based on a complaint by S Manohar, the general secretary of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee, under section 192 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which deals with inciting a riot.

Yatnal claimed on Sunday in Davangere that a 'great leader' from his party had set aside a substantial sum to unseat the Congress government, though he did not disclose the identity of this leader.
