The third and final phase of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections recorded a 56.01 per cent voter turnout by 3 pm, according to Election Commission data.
Polling in 40 Assembly segments across seven districts, including the winter capital Jammu, commenced at 7 am under stringent security measures. The first-time participation in the Assembly elections since the abrogation of Article 370 showed marked enthusiasm among the people.
With over 39.18 lakh eligible voters, the elections will determine the fate of 415 candidates. Noteworthy figures such as former deputy chief ministers Tara Chand and Muzaffar Baig are among the contenders. Polling continued peacefully with no untoward incidents reported.
