The Congress on Monday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of using the Enforcement Directorate (ED) as an instrument of harassment and vendetta against political opponents. The allegation follows the ED's booking of Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in a money laundering case linked to the MUDA land allotment issue.
Reacting to the development, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh criticized the ED's actions, calling them acts of revenge and political harassment. He stated that the people of Karnataka had rejected Modi resoundingly in the May 2023 elections and expressed confidence that Siddaramaiah would be vindicated.
Congress general secretary K C Venugopal alleged the proceedings were a fabricated attempt to unseat Siddaramaiah and destabilize the state government. According to Venugopal, the recent FIR by the Lokayukta police and swift actions by the ED were unconstitutional and clear indicators of political manipulation.
