The Karnataka State Women's Commission has issued a directive to the Kannada Film Chamber, urging the formation of a committee to combat sexual harassment within the industry. They have been given 15 days to present an action plan or provide valid reasons for non-compliance.

N M Suresh, Director of the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce, and filmmaker Kavitha Lankesh attended a meeting with the Women's Commission, confirming these directions. The committee initiative follows a recent petition signed by 153 artistes, demanding the establishment of a committee akin to the Justice K Hema Committee in Malayalam cinema.

During the meeting, the commission also presented a detailed 17-point agenda aimed at addressing the exploitation of women in the film industry. Lankesh emphasized the importance of this initiative, given the historical lack of formal complaints and the need for a structured support system for victims.
