The Trinamool Congress (TMC) is likely to nominate MP Kirti Azad to head the parliamentary panel on Chemicals and Fertilisers, according to party sources. Meanwhile, a Rajya Sabha member will be nominated to head the Commerce committee.
However, the TMC sources mentioned that till Wednesday evening, there was no official communication from the government regarding the nominations for the committees. This clarification came a day after Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju stated that the TMC hadn't submitted any names for the parliamentary panels.
The source further revealed that a senior TMC leader contacted the Parliamentary Affairs Minister on Thursday, who then informed them about the committees the TMC would chair. The TMC, which has 29 MPs in Lok Sabha and 12 in Rajya Sabba, will chair both the Commerce committee and the Chemical & Fertilisers committee, with the latter likely being led by MP Kirti Azad.
