Trinamool Congress (TMC) is poised to nominate its MPs Kirti Azad and Dola Sen to head significant parliamentary panels on Chemical and Fertilisers, and Commerce respectively, sources revealed.
However, until Wednesday evening, the TMC had not received any official communication from the government regarding this matter. This followed a statement by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju that the TMC had not provided the names of their nominees for chairing the panels.
According to sources, a senior TMC leader reached out to Minister Rijiju on Thursday. It was then that the TMC was informed about the committees they will chair. The TMC, which holds 29 seats in the Lok Sabha and 12 in the Rajya Sabha, is set to lead the Commerce committee under the Rajya Sabha and the Chemical & Fertilisers committee of the Lok Sabha.
