Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi asserted on Monday that the Congress would exert pressure on the Centre if it failed to reinstate Jammu and Kashmir's statehood after the assembly elections conclude.
Addressing an election rally in Surankote, Poonch district, Gandhi emphasized the historic nature of converting a state into a Union Territory and pledged to prioritize the restoration of statehood. He criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi, claiming the INDIA bloc had successfully challenged his psychology.
Gandhi also accused the RSS-BJP of fostering division through hatred based on religion, caste, creed, and region. He affirmed that the Congress would counteract these divisions by fostering unity and love. The three-phase Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections are ongoing, with results slated to be announced on October 8.
