Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to join the leaders of the US, Japan, and Australia at the Quad summit in the US later this month, where the influential grouping will deliberate on pressing global challenges, including the situation in Ukraine.

The summit is expected to take place on September 21 in US President Joe Biden's hometown of Wilmington in Delaware, sources said. While an official announcement is pending, it was initially India's turn to host the Quad summit this year. However, the tight schedules of the leaders necessitated a venue convenient for all, resulting in the US hosting.

Highlighting the focus on the Indo-Pacific region, the Quad summit will explore ways to boost cooperation among its member nations and address key global challenges. This follows comprehensive discussions held in July by the foreign ministers of the Quad countries in Tokyo. In a message aimed squarely at China, the Quad reaffirmed its commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific.

Prime Minister Modi, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida are also set to attend the UN's Summit of the Future in New York on September 22 and 23. The UN event aims to forge new international consensus on delivering a better present and safeguarding the future.
