Atishi took the oath of office on Saturday, marking her historic induction as Delhi's third woman chief minister. At 43, she is the youngest to ever hold the position in the national capital.
Atishi's tenure will be brief, as Delhi faces assembly elections in February. A key figure within the AAP, Atishi previously managed the party's operations during the period when Arvind Kejriwal was jailed over the excise policy case.
Nominated by her predecessor Kejriwal, Atishi joins a short list of influential female leaders, including the BJP's Sushma Swaraj and the Congress' Sheila Dikshit. She is also the second woman currently serving as a chief minister in India, along with Mamata Banerjee of West Bengal.
