JD(S) leader and Union minister H D Kumaraswamy on Thursday criticized the Karnataka government's handling of the clashes during a Ganesh idol immersion procession in his home constituency, Mandya. He attributed the incident to the 'failure' and 'inefficiency' of the current administration.

The incident, which resulted in mobs going on a rampage, reflects poorly on the state government's law and order capabilities. The police have since arrested 52 people and imposed prohibitory orders in Mandya district.

Home Minister G Parameshwara downplayed the incident, calling it a spur-of-the-moment occurrence rather than 'communal violence.' However, Kumaraswamy retorted that there's a pattern of such incidents under the Congress-led government, claiming it favors one community, and urged the administration to safeguard all communities' interests.
