Police have apprehended five suspects for allegedly vandalizing a vehicle and attacking its driver during the Kanwar Yatra on the Haridwar-Delhi National Highway in July, officials reported Tuesday.

The incident, claimed to have stemmed from a vehicle brushing against a Kanwar participant, was found to be unsubstantiated upon investigation.

The episode occurred near Bahedi Cut on July 21, under the jurisdiction of Chapar police station. Driver Aqib was traveling from Dehradun to Meerut when the incident occurred.

Police rescued Aqib and confirmed the allegations were false. The accused, identified through CCTV footage, have been charged under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including public nuisance and attempt to murder.

The five arrested individuals—Tushar, Karan, Anshu, Tarun, and Varun—are now facing legal proceedings.
