Political Realignment: VCK Invites AIADMK for Anti-Liquor Conference

Thol Thirumavalavan, leader of the VCK, has extended an invitation to the opposition AIADMK and various democratic parties to support an anti-liquor and anti-narcotics conference in Kallakurichi on Gandhi Jayanthi. The event aims to push for a prohibition policy at the national level and reduce liquor dependency in Tamil Nadu.

This invitation has ignited speculation about a potential political realignment ahead of the 2026 assembly elections. The AIADMK, which had previously endorsed total prohibition, expressed mixed reactions. Senior leader Vaigaiselvan indicated that the party's general secretary, Edappadi K Palaniswami, would decide on the invitation.

Responding to media queries, DMK Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin stated that the decision rests with the AIADMK. Thirumavalavan emphasized that the invitation is not politically motivated but focused on the larger goal of eliminating liquor and drug addiction. He also criticized the AIADMK for not enforcing prohibition despite its promises.
