Wrestling Scandal: Brij Bhushan Singh Alleges Congress Conspiracy

After wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia joined Congress, former WFI president and BJP leader Brij Bhushan Singh accused the party of a conspiracy against him. Singh claims the protest was led by Congress and targeted at tarnishing his image, not for the honor of women athletes.

A day after Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia joined Congress, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, ex-Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president and BJP leader, labeled the move as a demonstration that the wrestlers' protest was a 'conspiracy' orchestrated by Congress.

Speaking to ANI on Saturday, Singh remarked, 'On January 18, 2023, when the protest began at Jantar Mantar, I stated that it was not a movement of sportspersons. Congress was behind it, particularly Bhupinder Hooda, Deepender Hooda, Priyanka Gandhi, and Rahul Gandhi. Today's events verify my statements.'

Singh further alleged the protest wasn't to uphold women's dignity but rather to serve political aims. He asserted the 'daughters of Haryana' faced embarrassment due to such actions and accused Bhupinder Hooda of scripting the protests to tarnish his reputation. 'I am not guilty of disrespecting women,' Singh said.
