In a significant political move ahead of the Haryana Assembly polls, wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia are set to join the Congress party, sources have revealed.
The athletes met with Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and other senior leaders at 10 Rajaji Marg, and will be officially welcomed into the party at a press conference to be held at the AICC headquarters.
While it remains to be seen if either or both of them will contest in the upcoming elections, this development has added a new layer of intrigue to the electoral landscape, especially with the Congress and AAP in intense seat-sharing negotiations.
