Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, has spotlighted the plight of trackmen in the Indian Railways, describing them as the most neglected employees. Gandhi highlighted their vital role in ensuring safe rail travel for millions of Indians.
In a post on X, accompanied by a video from his recent interaction with trackmen at the Delhi Cantonment railway station, Gandhi underscored that the system offers 'neither promotion nor emotion' for trackmen, who walk eight to 10 kilometers daily, carrying 35 kg of equipment.
Trackmen face hazardous conditions, with around 550 fatalities annually due to insufficient safety measures. Gandhi emphasized the need for safety devices and promotion opportunities through departmental examinations to ensure both the safety and progress of these essential workers.
