On Friday, the nomination papers of 62 candidates were rejected during scrutiny for 26 assembly constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir. These rejections are a significant development ahead of the second phase of the elections scheduled for September 25, officials stated.
Among the prominent candidates are National Conference leader Omar Abdullah, Pradesh Congress Committee chief Tariq Hamid Karra, Jammu and Kashmir BJP president Ravinder Raina, and jailed separatist leader Sarjan Ahmad Wagay, also known as Barkati. Both Abdullah and Barkati are contesting from two constituencies each.
Ganderbal saw the highest number of rejections, with nine candidates' papers being invalidated. The election will impact constituencies in six districts, including high-profile seats like Lal Chowk, Khanyar, and Hazratbal. The final date for the withdrawal of nomination papers is set for Monday.
