Putin's Support for Kamala Harris Raises Eyebrows

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, when asked if President Vladimir Putin's stated support for U.S. presidential candidate Kamala Harris was serious or in jest, indicated on Friday that people would have to determine that for themselves.

During an interview on Thursday, Putin expressed his preference for Harris over Donald Trump, citing her 'infectious' laugh as a reason she might be less inclined to impose sanctions on Russia. Putin made the remark with a smile, adding to the intrigue surrounding his comments amid the U.S. campaign.

When pressed about Putin's seriousness, Peskov told reporters, "When he is asked about international affairs, he comments on them. As for his tone, people abroad who are interested must try to interpret that." The White House urged Putin to refrain from commenting on the November election.

According to Peskov, Putin's priority remains Russia's wellbeing, adding that 'American affairs cannot be, and are not, a concern that is at the top of the president's agenda.'
