The BJD on Friday expelled its Rajya Sabha MP Sujeet Kumar for anti-party activities shortly after he submitted his resignation from the Upper House of Parliament. The opposition party stated that Kumar has "let down the party" that had facilitated his position in the Rajya Sabha.
In an order, BJD president and former Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik emphasized that Kumar also disappointed the aspirations of the people of Kalahandi.
In his resignation letter to the Rajya Sabha chairman, Kumar said the decision was made "consciously" and expressed his gratitude for the opportunities provided to him to address public issues and advocate for Odisha during his tenure. This event comes a month after Kudumi community leader Mamata Mohanta resigned from the Rajya Sabha and the BJD before joining the BJP.
