Congress leader Ajay Singh Yadav on Thursday asserted that the party's popularity in Haryana is at an all-time high, making an alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) unnecessary for the upcoming Assembly elections. He added that leaders Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, and Sonia Gandhi would make the final decision.
Fresh from the sub-screening committee meeting in New Delhi, Yadav disclosed his recommendations for two OBC candidates who he believes stand a strong chance of winning. The committee deliberated on potential candidates who can secure victories for Congress.
Meanwhile, AICC in-charge of Haryana, Deepak Babaria, confirmed ongoing discussions with AAP and other INDIA bloc partners like the Communist Party of India (CPIM) and the Samajwadi Party. Rahul Gandhi has sought the opinion of Haryana Congress leaders on possible coalitions during the Central Election Committee meeting. Arvind Kejriwal also announced that AAP plans to contest all 90 seats independently in the upcoming elections on October 5, with results to be announced on October 8.
