Haryana Minister and BJP leader Ranjit Singh Chautala announced his resignation from the Cabinet on Thursday following the BJP's decision not to offer him a ticket for the forthcoming assembly elections. The BJP unveiled its first list of 67 candidates on Wednesday for the 90-seat assembly.

Ranjit Chautala, the brother of former Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala, disclosed his intentions to stand as an independent candidate from the Rania constituency. 'I will contest as an independent candidate from the Rania Assembly constituency. It is the decision of the people of my constituency. I have resigned from the minister's post. After I did not get the ticket, I took this decision,' he told ANI.

The BJP has nominated Shishpal Kamboj for the Rania seat in its initial candidate list, with Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini vying for the Ladwa constituency.

The Haryana assembly polls are scheduled for October 5 with the vote counting set for October 8. Meanwhile, voting in Jammu and Kashmir will occur on September 18, 25, and October 1, with results also on October 8. The Congress is reportedly negotiating a seat-sharing arrangement with AAP for the Haryana elections.
