On Wednesday, the Congress party's youth wing held protests in various parts of Kerala, including the port city of Kochi, demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. The protests stem from allegations made by LDF MLA P V Anvar against the CM's political secretary and top IPS officers in the state.
In Kochi, Youth Congress (YC) activists marched to the office of the police commissioner, calling for the CM's resignation. Police responded by setting up barricades and using water cannons to disperse the protesters. Despite TV visuals showing the police's efforts, activists remained undeterred, sitting on the road and chanting slogans against the CM. Eventually, police forcibly removed them and carried them away in buses.
Similar scenes unfolded at the Malappuram SP's office, turning violent as police removed YC protestors. The Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) announced a protest march to the Secretariat in Thiruvananthapuram on Friday to demand the CM's resignation, the removal of alleged criminals in the CMO, and a CBI investigation into Anvar's allegations. Senior Congress leaders, including KPCC chief K Sudhakaran and Leader of Opposition V D Satheesan, plan to participate. Anvar has accused Vijayan's political secretary P Sasi and ADGP Ajith Kumar of breaching trust, phone tapping, and involvement in serious crimes, putting the CPI(M)-led government on the defensive.
