Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday criticized Congress as a ''family-run'' party, unlike BJP where workers can rise from the grassroots to higher positions, including the post of Prime Minister.

Addressing BJP workers at the state office, Sarma emphasized the need to target youths aged 18 to 25 for membership, describing them as the future of the organization.

He renewed his own BJP membership after nine years and urged party workers to focus on new voters. His comments came in the context of PM Narendra Modi's nationwide membership drive kickoff in Delhi on Monday.
