The Congress party was poised to contest all 90 seats in the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections independently. Yet, an alliance with the National Conference emerged as a necessary step under 'national compulsion,' stated Pradesh Congress Committee chief Tariq Hameed Karra on Saturday.
Karra emphasized that the coalition aimed at ensuring stability and betterment for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Both parties have agreed on a seat-share arrangement, with the National Conference contesting 51 seats and the Congress 32 seats.
During a function at the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee headquarters, Karra reiterated the coalition's adherence to alliance principles. He also addressed internal conflicts within the BJP, attributing their issues to ideological rifts.
