Pakistan's jailed former prime minister, Imran Khan, alleged on Thursday that the removal of ex-spymaster Faiz Hameed led to the termination of planned talks with the Afghan government, which aimed to tackle security issues.
Hameed, removed as ISI chief in October 2021, had been close to Khan. His removal resulted in differences between Khan and the army, eventually leading to Khan's ouster in April 2022. This month, Hameed was arrested to face court-martial proceedings.
In a recent interaction with journalists at Adiala Jail Rawalpindi, Khan connected Hameed's removal with deteriorating ties with Afghanistan and an increase in cross-border terrorist attacks. He condemned all types of terrorism and highlighted the country's worsening security and economic situation.
