Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma alleged that Jharkhand minister Champai Soren has been under surveillance by his own government for the past five months.
Two sub-inspectors from the Jharkhand Police were discovered monitoring Soren in a Delhi hotel, where they were nabbed by Soren's people. The individuals originally claimed to be journalists but later admitted to being Special Branch officers. They were handed over to Chanakyapuri Police Station and an FIR was filed.
Sarma described the surveillance as a serious case of espionage and called for a thorough investigation. He raised concerns about the breach of privacy and potential phone tapping of Soren. Speculations of a 'honey trap' plot also emerged as a woman had been meeting with the sub-inspectors.
