Suvendu Adhikari, Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, on Tuesday accused the police of "brutal repression" on peaceful participants of the 'Nabanna Abhijan' rally. He warned that if the alleged police brutalities continue, the BJP would stall the state.
"Police are using water cannons on peaceful protestors at Santragachi, bursting tear gas shells on students at Howrah Bridge, and lathicharging them at College Street. These brutal actions must cease immediately," Adhikari told reporters.
Adhikari continued, "If police repression does not end immediately, we will stall West Bengal tomorrow. An alarming situation has been created by this administration, with many protestors injured. If Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal and the DGP do not stop these brutalities, we will not remain idle. We, however, are not joining the Chhatra Samaj movement as requested, though we support their cause."
