Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced Monday that former Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren will be joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on August 30 in Ranchi.

Sarma shared a photograph of Soren meeting Union Home Minister Amit Shah, also attended by Sarma, who is the BJP's co-incharge for the upcoming Jharkhand assembly elections.

The announcement follows Soren's public allegations against his current party, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), accusing them of disrespect. Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren has claimed that the BJP is attempting to poach JMM leaders.
