The Union Cabinet on Saturday approved the 'BioE3 (Biotechnology for Economy, Environment and Employment) Policy' aimed at boosting high-performance biomanufacturing. Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced at a media briefing post-meeting that the policy will provide innovation-driven support to research, development, and entrepreneurship across various thematic sectors.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired the cabinet meeting. Vaishnaw mentioned that the policy would accelerate technological development and commercialization through the establishment of biomanufacturing and Bio-Al hubs and Biofoundry, aiming to push the sector forward.
The policy also focuses on prioritizing regenerative bioeconomy models for green growth, expanding India's skilled workforce, and significantly increasing job creation. These benefits align with government initiatives such as achieving a 'Net Zero' carbon economy and promoting 'Lifestyle for Environment'. The policy is expected to drive India's 'Green Growth' by advancing the circular bioeconomy and creating a future that is more sustainable, innovative, and responsive to global challenges.
