Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday invited Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to visit India during their talks in Kyiv.

Modi's nearly nine-hour visit marked the first time an Indian prime minister has visited Ukraine since it became independent over three decades ago. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar confirmed the invitation at a subsequent media briefing.

"It's significant that our prime minister has visited Ukraine for the first time since 1992. It is natural on such occasions that he extends an invitation, which he did in this case," Jaishankar noted. He added that President Zelenskyy is expected to visit India at a convenient time.

During the media briefing, Jaishankar also addressed questions regarding India's energy trade with Russia. He explained the tight global energy market, exacerbated by sanctions on many energy producers, and highlighted the importance of maintaining reasonable and stable oil prices for the international economy.
