NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar on Friday raised concerns about the rising incidents of atrocities against young girls and women in Maharashtra, urging the home department to remain vigilant and take stringent action to curb such crimes.

Highlighting the recent sexual assault of two kindergarten girls at a school in Badlapur, Pawar expressed shock and criticized Chief Minister Eknath Shinde's comments labeling the subsequent protests as political. Pawar emphasized the need for a sensitive approach in handling such incidents and called for broader societal awareness and peaceful measures to tackle the issue.

Pawar announced that the opposition alignment Maha Vikas Aghadi has organized a Maharashtra Bandh on August 24 to protest the Badlapur incident and urged all sections of society to participate. He also addressed the demands of Maharashtra Public Service Commission aspirants, promising to advocate on their behalf.
