Thailand has delayed next month's BIMSTEC summit, which was to bring together leaders from seven South Asian nations, citing the formation of a new administration as the reason, according to a statement from the foreign ministry on Friday.
The country is currently under a caretaker government after the court dismissed Premier Srettha Thavisin last week. His successor, Paetongtarn Shinawatra, has yet to name her new cabinet.
The summit, originally scheduled for Sept. 3-4 in Bangkok, involves the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC), which includes Thailand, India, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Bhutan. The group's leaders convene every two years.
