Blinken Urges Immediate Gaza Cease-Fire Amid Hostage Crisis

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has called for an urgent Gaza cease-fire to secure the release of hostages held by Hamas and provide relief to Palestinians after months of conflict. On his ninth mission to the Middle East, Blinken noted the significant progress made but acknowledged ongoing dissatisfaction from Hamas and non-negotiable stances from Israel.

His trip precedes new talks in Egypt, amid concerns the conflict could expand regionally following critical militant killings in Lebanon that Iran attributed to Israel. In discussions with Israeli President Isaac Herzog, Blinken described the current scenario as a decisive moment for peace and security.

Later, Blinken engaged in a prolonged meeting with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and planned to meet Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. The continuing negotiations saw mixed responses, with Israel firmly maintaining certain security measures and Hamas accusing Israel of obstructing the process.
