The Congress party is seeking a 'respectable alliance' with like-minded parties for the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections, according to Tariq Hameed Karra, the newly-appointed J&K Congress chief. The parameters for such a tie-up will differ from those in the Lok Sabha elections.
Karra, in an interview with PTI, stated that the restoration of statehood is of utmost importance and accused the Centre of taking unconstitutional steps by downgrading the state to a Union Territory. He also noted the significance of uniting all secular parties opposed to the BJP's 'hegemonic attitude.'
The Congress party aims to leverage the goodwill generated by Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra and is optimistic about its prospects in the upcoming elections. Karra criticized the BJP's approach to Jammu and Kashmir, alleging that it treats the region with a 'step-motherly' attitude. The focus will be on restoring democracy and statehood, and addressing unconstitutional changes imposed by the Centre.
