Senior National Conference leader and former minister Ajay Kumar Sadotra announced on Saturday that the party's parliamentary board will soon decide the chief ministerial candidate for the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir Assembly polls. Sadotra expressed optimism that Omar Abdullah might reconsider his decision not to run in the elections.

The Election Commission has scheduled the J&K assembly polls in three phases: September 18, 25, and October 1, with vote counting on October 4. An official gazette notification for the first phase will be issued on August 20, followed by candidate nominations concluding on August 27, scrutiny on August 28, and withdrawal of candidature permitted until August 30.

Sadotra further added that the National Conference is fully prepared for the elections, and decisions regarding candidates and pre-poll alliances will be made by the party's high command. In a recent development, Farooq Abdullah welcomed BJP leader Joginder Singh Kaku into NC at a rally in Nagrota.
