Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong held a crucial meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday, addressing the heightened tension at the international border due to political unrest in Bangladesh. CM Sangma emphasized that Meghalaya police are maintaining high alert status, with night curfews imposed along the border to bolster security.

In the review meeting, CM Sangma detailed that the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Army are conducting rigorous monitoring operations. He highlighted the commendable work by these forces and noted that Meghalaya police are also on heightened vigilance. Sangma stressed to the Home Minister that no individuals should be permitted to cross the border, considering the sensitive nature of the situation.

The Home Minister assured that the Indian government is taking all necessary measures to prevent crossings and enhance security. CM Sangma requested additional manpower if required, to which the Home Minister responded positively, promising to examine the situation and take appropriate actions. Additionally, BSF has increased security measures and surveillance along the Indo-Bangladesh border.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has set up a committee led by the Additional Director General (ADG) of BSF Eastern Command to monitor the situation at the Indo-Bangladesh Border (IBB). This committee includes senior officers from BSF Frontier HQs in South Bengal and Tripura, among others. The move comes in response to the political turmoil following the ouster of former Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina on August 5 amid escalating protests.
