Rahul Gandhi Urges National Disaster Status for Kerala Landslides

Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, on Wednesday urged the government to declare the recent landslides in Wayanad, Kerala, a national disaster.
Addressing the issue during Zero Hour, Gandhi also demanded higher compensation for the affected individuals and families. 'I saw it with my own eyes. Entire families are wiped out,' he stated, emphasizing the need for immediate and comprehensive measures.
With over 200 confirmed dead and many missing, Gandhi said the casualty count could surpass 400. He praised the efforts of state governments and central forces in rescue operations and highlighted the unity among diverse communities in providing assistance. He urged the government to develop a rehabilitation package and disaster-resistant infrastructure to mitigate future crises.
