The Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) on Thursday announced its alliance with the Haryana Lokhit Party (HLP) for the upcoming state assembly polls scheduled for October 5.
As part of the agreement, the INLD will back HLP candidate Gopal Kanda in the Sirsa assembly constituency. Kanda, a sitting MLA from Sirsa, had earlier supported the BJP government.
INLD leader Abhay Singh Chautala confirmed the partnership with HLP and noted that the INLD will also be contesting the polls in alliance with Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). The BSP is set to contest 37 out of the 90 assembly seats in Haryana, with the remaining seats going to the INLD.
The ruling BJP, aiming for a third consecutive term, faces stiff competition from an invigorated Congress, which hopes to leverage anti-incumbency sentiments.
Polling will occur on October 5, with the counting of votes scheduled for October 8.
