Opposition parties in Jammu and Kashmir have announced a joint protest set for August 8 in Kathua, aimed at restoring statehood and reversing the amendments that empower the Union Territory's lieutenant governor.
The parties also voiced strong condemnation over the situation in Bangladesh, specifically the attacks on Hindu religious sites, and appealed to the Narendra Modi government to ensure the safety of both Indian students and Hindus in the neighboring country.
The decision stems from a meeting held at Congress headquarters in Jammu, where representatives emphasized the need to regain statehood, hold early elections, and empower the people. The protest marks the first in a series of planned demonstrations across district and tehsil headquarters.
