Major Army Reshuffle Follows Prime Minister's Resignation in Bangladesh

Following Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's resignation amid protests, Bangladesh executed a significant reshuffle in its Army's top brass. The changes include Lt Gen Md. Saiful Alam's new role at the Foreign Ministry and Maj Gen Ziaul Ahsan being relieved from his duties at the NTMC.

Bangladesh underwent a significant shift in its Army leadership on Tuesday, triggered by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's resignation and subsequent departure from the country. This upheaval followed deadly protests concerning a contentious job quota system.

As part of the reshuffle, Maj Gen Ziaul Ahsan, previously the director general of the National Telecommunication Monitoring Centre (NTMC), was relieved of his duties. The Dhaka Tribune, referencing a press release from the Inter-Services Public Relations Department (ISPR), reported this development.

Additionally, several key positions were reassigned: Lt Gen Md. Saiful Alam was moved to the Foreign Ministry; Lt Gen Md. Mojibur Rahman became GOC of Army Training and Doctrine Command; Lt Gen Ahmad Tabrez Shams Chowdhury took over as Quartermaster General of the Army; Lt Gen Mizanur Rahman Shamim was appointed Chief of General Staff of the Army; Lt Gen Mohammad Shahinul Haque was named Commandant of the NDC, and Major General ASM Ridwanur Rahman succeeded Ahsan as the director general of NTMC.
