External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Thursday to discuss the ongoing border tensions and future cooperation between the two countries. This marks their second meeting within a month.

The discussions, held in Vientiane on the sidelines of the ASEAN meetings, focused on ensuring full respect for the Line of Actual Control (LAC) and adhering to past agreements to stabilize and rebuild bilateral ties. The two leaders agreed to provide strong guidance to hasten the disengagement process following the military standoff in eastern Ladakh since May 2020.

Jaishankar emphasized that India's relationship with China hinges on peace in the border areas and noted the exceptional significance of stable India-China relations for Asia and the multipolar world. Both sides agreed to convene an early meeting of the Working Mechanism on Consultation and Coordination on India-China Border Affairs to further the discussions.
