Taiwan's Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung stated on Friday that the island must depend on itself for defense as China intensifies its military pressure to assert sovereignty claims over the democratic island.
Addressing questions from reporters about remarks made by U.S. presidential candidate Donald Trump regarding Taiwan, Lin noted that Taiwan is purchasing weapons from the United States and continues to increase its defense budget.
Trump recently argued that Taiwan should bear the cost of its defense and accused the island of undermining the U.S. semiconductor industry.
