Israeli airstrikes killed more than 60 Palestinians in southern and central Gaza overnight and into Tuesday, striking even in designated 'safe zones' crowded with displaced people.

Despite scaling back major ground offensives, Israel has continued almost daily airstrikes, including a deadly strike near Khan Younis that killed 17 people. The Israeli military claimed it targeted a commander in Islamic Jihad's naval unit.

Civilians have heavily suffered, with deaths also reported in Nuseirat and Zawaida refugee camps. A UN school sheltering families was hit, killing at least nine. Meanwhile, international mediators push for a cease-fire.
