National Security Advisor Ajit Doval engaged in a phone conversation with his American counterpart Jake Sullivan on Friday. This dialogue comes amid indications of tension in India-US relations following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent visit to Russia.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) reported that both Doval and Sullivan emphasized the importance of a collaborative approach to addressing global peace and security challenges. They reiterated their commitment to strengthening the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership.

They agreed to work closely in advancing the bilateral relationship, founded on shared values and mutual strategic and security interests. The discussion also covered a range of bilateral, regional, and international issues, including upcoming high-level engagements within the Quad framework planned for July 2024 and later.

The phone call transpired a day after US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti appeared to critique India's relationship with Russia during an event in Delhi. Garcetti emphasized the importance of upholding democratic principles amid global conflicts, implicitly referencing the Russian invasion of Ukraine and asserting the critical need for India and the US to act as trusted allies.

Garcetti also highlighted the significance of maintaining border sanctity, stressing that the world's two largest democracies must enhance regional security and stability by upholding guiding principles of peace.
