Shakeup at OpenAI: Co-Founder John Schulman Joins Rival Anthropic, More Departures Revealed

John Schulman, one of the co-founders of artificial intelligence company OpenAI, has announced his departure to join rival firm Anthropic. Schulman made the announcement on the social media platform X late Monday, citing a desire to 'deepen my focus on AI alignment' and 'return to hands-on technical work.'

In related news, OpenAI's President and co-founder, Greg Brockman, will be taking a sabbatical through the end of the year, as reported by The Information. Additionally, Peter Deng, a product manager who joined OpenAI last year, has also left the company.

OpenAI has not yet responded to requests for comment on these departures. The wave of exits comes amidst significant personnel changes at the company, including the reassignment of AI safety leader Aleksander Madry and the recent departures of co-founder Ilya Sutskever and founding member Andrej Karpathy. Meanwhile, Elon Musk has revived his lawsuit against OpenAI, alleging the firm prioritizes profits over the public interest.
