Angola boosts cooperation with Germany, Sweden in energy sector

The German Ambassador to Angola, Dirk Lolk said in northern Cabinda province on April 9 that Germany will boost cooperation with Angola in the renewable energy sector.
The diplomat, who is in Cabinda for a working visit, said he is in the province to identify areas of the electricity sub-sector to invest.
"This province is known in the world for oil and Germany has no company in this field, so we will focus our attention on the renewable energy sector," he said.
The diplomat praised cooperation between the two countries, highlighting the supply of equipment for the hydroelectric dams of Lauca in northern Malanje province and Cambambe in Cuanza Norte. In Cabinda, the diplomat is visiting several economic enterprises.
Angola’s minister of Energy and Waters João Baptista Borges left on April for Germany and Sweden to discuss the strengthening of bilateral co-operation in the sector. On his first day of working agenda, Baptista Borges is attending a roundtable on Angolan-German energy partnership, preceding the Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue 2019.
The minister will meet with representatives of several local firms in Germany, as part of business cooperation with companies operating in Angola such as the Siemens. On the other hand, his visit to Sweden between April 11 and 13 includes consultation meeting to reinforce cooperation concerning the Dembos’ electrification project located in the northern Bengo province.
Sweden is a strong partner of Angola, as part of the effort, the government is undertaking in implementing electricity and water infrastructure. The visit is also intended to attract the Swedish businesspeople to invest in Angola.
