BJP secretary Vivek Premi from Shamli district has been detained over allegations of attempted murder and rioting amid a clash between temple management and local shopkeepers, as reported by police on Wednesday.
The conflict arose when the temple administration decided to vacate certain temple-owned shops, a move that was resisted by shopkeepers under the leadership of Premi, according to police reports. An FIR recorded by temple representative Yogi Karan Nath accused several individuals, including Premi, of assault and abuse.
According to Police Circle Officer Amardeep Moray, a case has been filed against ten people involved in the incident, with Vivek Premi's arrest taking place last evening. In response to Premi's detention, Shamli traders initiated a protest, staging a dharna on Wednesday to voice their discontent.
